Overview: Davao was the center of the abaca industry in the Philippines with more than 45 thousand hectares in the 1900’s. Due to lack of government support and the onset of diseases, the abaca industry suffered a major setback and was replaced by other crops after World War II. Abaca is also an important agro-forestry product that grows well in forest thereby making it conducive to watershed protection that there is a need for the stakeholders, farmers, and processors to come together and work for the improvement of abaca industry in the city. |

RESOLUTION TO ENACT AN ORDINANCE BANNING AERIAL SPRAYING AS AN AGRICULTURAL PRACTICE IN ALL AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES BY ALL AGRICULTURAL ENTITIES IN DAVAO CITY |

Overview: The City of Davao, with fertile lands and ideal climactic condition, hosts various large farms planted with different crops. These farms lay adjacent to other agricultural businesses and that residential areas abuts these farm boundaries. Aerial spraying as a mode of applying chemical substances such as fungicides and pesticides is being used by investors/companies over large agricultural plantations in Davao City. |

TO ENACT AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED “THE ANTI - SMOKE BELCHING ORDINANCE OF DAVAO CITY” |

| |
Overview: The City recognizes that pollution from motor vehicles is one of the major causes of poor and deteriorating air quality in Davao City and seriously affects the well-being of its citizens. The City upholds the principle that "polluters must pay" and that a clean and healthy environment must be the concern of all its constituents. |

Overview: A nesting ground, with at least a dozen of turtle nests, of the endangered turtle (eretmochelys imbricata, locally known as pawikan) has been found Punta Dumalag. Hawksbill is listed under Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species on Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Appendix I and under the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) as endangered (E) |

Overview: Republic Act 7160, the Local Government Code of 1991, mandates the City Government to enact appropriate ordinances in the management, conservation and protection of its resources. Republic Act 8550 otherwise known as the “Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998” mandates local government units to enact appropriate ordinances for the management, conservation, development, protection, utilization and disposition of all fish and fishery/aquatic resources therein. |

Overview: The United Nations through its General Assembly enacted the “Principles for Older Persons” in pursuance of the International Plan of Action on Ageing, adopted by the World Assembly on Ageing and endorsed by the General Assembly in its resolution 37/51 of 3 December 1982. Article XV, Section 4, of the 1987 Philippine Constitution provides that the family has the duty to care for its elderly members but the State may also do so through just programs of social security. |

MAXIMIZING THE USE OF RAINWATER IN DAVAO CITY |

Overview: Sustainable development relies heavily on the availability of fresh water resources. The country depends mainly on the utilization of groundwater resource, overexploitation of which may lead to eventual resource depletion. The United Nations (UN) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has recommended to extend the use of rainwater resources to supplement the water supply and to prevent overexploitation of surface and groundwater resources. |
